October is Fire Prevention Month

October is Fire Prevention Month as well as Breast Cancer Awareness Month!

Let's talk about fire prevention, never leave candles, cooking, space heaters, etc unattended. Never smoke in bed, I know someone who's house burned to the ground because they fell asleep while smoking. They made it out alive (thank goodness) but all of their cherished belongings were lost forever!

Have a fire extinguisher on hand in the kitchen and garage and be sure you know how to use it! You do not want to be reading the label if a fire breaks out!

Check your smoke detector batteries! If you unplug them because you burned something and the beeping is driving you crazy, please remember to plug those batteries back in!

Teach your children to STOP, DROP, and ROLL and keep a first aid kit on hand with burn cream for minor burns.

Seriously, know what to do in case of minor burns happening, I have heard of a lot of crazy stuff such as put butter on it, put ice on it, etc (butter will not help or hurt, but ice could cause more damage). The best thing to do for a minor burn is run cold water over the burn then apply a burn cream.

Momma Findings is hosting a giveaway of Burn Jel Plus! It can safely be applied to the face or other skin surfaces and is widely available at stores including CVS, Rite Aid, Walgreens and Wal-Mart! Five winners will get free bottles of Burn Jel Plus to put in their first aid kit. So stop by Momma Findings and enter to win here.
